Exeter College

Collins Richards Scholarship

I hail from Croydon, and completed my MChem at Oxford. I was lucky enough to have my Part II project, investigating high-pressure synthesis of quinary transition metal oxysulphides, co-supervised by both the Clarke Group, and the Kageyama Group at the University of Kyoto. I'm a particular fan of crystallography and solid-state chemistry. Outside (and sometimes inside) the lab, I enjoy singing; getting up to both classical and newer music around Oxford.

I am originally from the United States but moved to Staines in England when I was 13. I recently completed my MChem here at Oxford where my fourth year project involved mechanistic study into enantioselective iron catalysed oxidative cross-coupling with Mike Neidig. My research interests involve earth-abundant organometallics and their applications to catalysis and synthesis. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking and crocheting.

I grew up in a small village near Aylesbury and later pursued an MSci Chemistry degree at the University of Bristol. In my final year project, supervised by Dr Sanjit Nayak, I designed and synthesised porous hybrid MOF@COF composites for green photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to methanol. I was also part of the 2025 JRCF studentship intake at Oxford which helped confirm my desire to explore doctoral research. My research interest focuses on using functional materials to help enable the green transition. In my free time, I frequently enjoy rock climbing around the country and cooking at home.

I grew up in Devon and completed my MChem at the University of Warwick. My fourth-year research project involved investigating mixed metal Tin MOFs as part of the Prof Richard Walton group. My interests lie in inorganic materials and computational prediction and simulation. Outside of research, I enjoy playing cricket and keeping active.

I am originally from Poland and grew up in the Netherlands before moving to the UK to study Chemistry at the University of Warwick. During my BSc, I worked in the Becer Research Group on baroplastic polymers and poly(2-oxazoline)-based nanoparticles, which sparked my interest in polymer and materials chemistry. I recently completed my MPhil in Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, where I worked on pH-responsive hyaluronic acid supramolecular hydrogels for drug delivery. I am particularly interested in how the structure and properties of polymers and supramolecular materials can be controlled to develop novel biomaterials and nanoparticle formulations for biomedical applications. Outside of the lab, I enjoy horse riding, running, travelling and reading.

I completed my MChem with Industrial Training at the University of Bath. During my third year, I undertook a placement at Merck in Germany, where I optimised analytical techniques for the determination of trace impurities in display and semiconductor materials. My final-year research project in Prof. Andrew Johnson’s group focused on the synthesis and characterisation of antimony and bismuth precursors for the atomic layer deposition of their oxides. Broadly, I am interested in organometallic chemistry, thin-film deposition and semiconducting materials. Aside from research, I enjoy cycling, baking, drawing and painting.

I am from Seoul, South Korea and I completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Yonsei University. My research focuses on the degradation mechanisms of metal halide perovskites under illumination and electrical bias. I am particularly interested in operando and in situ electrical/optical spectroscopy for monitoring degradation as a function of operating time. During my free time, I enjoy cinema and photography.

I grew up in south east London before completing my MChem degree at the University of Oxford. In my master's research project, I investigated the reactivity of a sterically protected phosphorus centre, targeting heavy main group multiple bonding motifs. Outside the lab, I enjoy playing rugby league and the piano.

I grew up just outside Paris before moving to Canada to complete a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at McGill University, where I developed an interest in luminescent π-conjugated radicals. At Oxford, I am building on that interest by researching luminescent quantum molecular materials. Outside my degree, I enjoy exploring whatever city I’m living in, and you can usually find me planning my next trip.

Balliol College Scholarship

I grew up in Essex and obtained my MSci degree in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry from the University of Nottingham. In the summer of my third year, I completed a studentship in the Kays Group, where I practised air-sensitive synthetic chemistry. Throughout my studies, I developed an interest in inorganic and synthetic chemistry, specifically with biomedical applications. These interests grew through my final year project, supervised by Prof. Graham Newton and Dr Nicholas Mitchell, which investigated the synthesis and characterisation of amino acid-modified polyoxometalates. Outside the lab, I enjoy playing netball, going to the gym, reading, and travelling.

Born in Edinburgh, I spent 10 years in Beijing before returning to the UK. I completed my BSc in Natural Sciences at UCL, majoring in Inorganic and Materials Chemistry and minoring in Physics. My research interests lie in solid-state chemistry and characterisation techniques, particularly as applied to materials for sustainable energy. Outside of academia, I enjoy cooking, music and exploring new places.
